130 Years to Bicycle Sports in Russia

The last weekend on August 31, 2013, within celebration of 130 years of the Russian cycling in Moscow -in the Krylatskoye Small Olympic Ring were arranged road cycling competitions.

These starts had one distinction – in bicycle races could take part both absolutely young three-year-old athletes and 70 years old veterans of Russian cycling, after all the main motto of the sports festival became: important is not sports result but participation.

Among guests of honor were Valery Sysoyev, President Emeritus of Bicycle Sports Federation of Russia, Alexander Gusyatnikov, Vice-president of the European Union of Bicyclists, Victor Manakov, Olympic champion – Honored Master, Shakhit Zagretdinov, Honored Master of Sports and many other well-known athletes and bicycle sports experts.

Competitions were opened by Vladimir Vagenleytner, Director General, BSFR. Addressing the gathered persons he thanked organizers, partners and personally Igor Makarov, BSFR President for huge contribution to development of bicycle sports in Russia, and he wished easy start and victorious finish to participants entering the competence.

The sports festival organizers namely Bicycle Sports Development And Support Fund and BSFR especially took care of children. As entertainment program cheerful clowns offered to young athletes and parents fascinating games and entertainments, and for a dessert everyone received multi-colored cotton candy. Organizers didn't forget adults as well. Marina Arakelova, an employee of the PROVELO magazine, appeared on special constructed stage with a solo program. In the big improvised tents were laid tables with viands and drinks for guests and participants.

• The competition of the youngest athletes (3 to 6 years) at 200 meters distance was won by Maxim Malakhov.
• In the 7 - 9 years old age category (3 X 400 meters) Nikita Tsvetkov took priority.
• Among 10 - 12 years old boys and girls (4 X 400 meters) the victory was won by Ilya Kudryashov.
• In teenagers category (13 – 15 years old) (2 X 4200 meters) Evgeny Zmeevsky became the strongest.
• Among women Alexandra Aldakushkina celebrated victory at 8400 meters distance.
• Among men at 21 km Georgy Moiseyev was the best.
• Dmitry Yakovlev became the strongest among mountain bikers.

During the sports festival was organized fund raising for three-year-old Timofey who needs medical treatment in the Children Medical Care Scientific and Practical Center – he suffers from craniofacial area malformation and congenital neuropathy.

All participants received a positive charge of emotions and a commemorative medal in honor of 130 years of Russian cycling, and athletes pleased the audience with fascinating and uncompromising fight.
